Everything You Need to Know About StemWave Therapy

Often, people assume invasive procedures and pain medication are their only options. But at Sievers, we offer an alternative: StemWave therapy. This noninvasive technology can help facilitate your recovery and get you back to what matters most.

StemWave Therapy: A Quick Overview

StemWave is a noninvasive treatment that uses sound wave technology to stimulate your body’s natural healing processes.

During a session, we run a device over your skin that delivers low-frequency acoustic waves to areas of damaged tissue. These sound waves create micro-stress in the affected area, triggering three key healing mechanisms:

  1. Increased blood flow – bringing oxygen and nutrients to support tissue repair.
  2. Reduced inflammation – by shifting macrophages from a pro-inflammatory (type 1) state to a healing (type 2) state.
  3. Pain signal reduction – by downregulating nociceptive (pain-transmitting) nerves, which helps decrease pain perception.

Together, these effects promote faster, more effective recovery in the treated area.

Conditions That Can Benefit from StemWave

We typically recommend StemWave for musculoskeletal injuries that don’t respond to other treatment techniques, such as the following:

  • Tendonitis
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Tennis elbow and golfer’s elbow
  • Shoulder impingement
  • Hip or shoulder bursitis
  • Lower back pain
  • Other joint pain, such as in the hip, knee, or shoulder
  • Soft tissue injuries that have stalled in the healing process

Many patients with long-standing issues find that StemWave offers relief even when other treatments haven’t worked.

StemWave Benefits

StemWave therapy offers several advantages over traditional treatments:

  • Noninvasive, with no downtime or recovery needed
  • Completely drug-free, helping you reduce the usage of pain medication
  • Quick sessions that typically last 10–15 minutes
  • Long-term relief that treats the root issue, not just symptoms

Frequently Asked Questions About StemWave Therapy

Is it safe? Are there side effects?

StemWave is FDA-registered and has a strong safety profile. Because it doesn’t involve needles, incisions, or drugs, there’s very little risk involved. Some patients may feel mild soreness after treatment, similar to what you might feel after a workout. This usually goes away within 24 hours.

How does it compare to other regenerative treatments?

At Sievers Sports Medicine, we offer several regenerative treatments, including PRP (platelet-rich plasma), stem cell injections, and percutaneous needle tenotomy (PNT). Like StemWave, these treatments facilitate your body’s natural healing responses and can effectively treat a range of musculoskeletal complaints. The most significant difference is that StemWave is completely noninvasive, meaning it requires no needles or blood draws.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on your condition, how long you’ve had symptoms, and how your body responds. Most patients require 6 – 8 treatments, spaced about a week apart, although some feel relief after just 1–2 sessions. In many cases, lasting results appear after the third or fourth visit. When you come in for your first appointment, we’ll conduct a comprehensive evaluation of your injury, health history, and overall recovery goals. That way, we can create a plan tailored to your needs.

Does StemWave benefit from complementary treatments?

Yes, StemWave therapy works best when paired with:

  • Targeted strength exercises to reinforce muscles and tendons
  • Stretching routines to improve joint and tissue mobility
  • Nutritional support to aid cell repair and reduce systemic inflammation
  • Movement modification to reduce re-injury during recovery

Our team will provide personalized recommendations based on your needs, and we can refer you to a physical therapist, dietician, or other specialist as needed.

Who should consider StemWave?

StemWave therapy is most effective for people who are struggling with pain that hasn’t improved with usual treatment. Essentially, if you’ve ever been told to “just live with it,” StemWave may offer a better path forward. This can include:

  • Athletes or active individuals looking to recover after an injury
  • People trying to avoid surgery or injections
  • Anyone with chronic pain

Patient Success

“I have seen Dr. Sievers for several years for long standing injuries I have. He and his staff have always done a great job. I totally recommend him to anyone. I’ve even brought my mom to see him all the way from Oklahoma. Dr. Sievers is a very caring, extremely competent physician. I am an orthodontist and have years of training. I can tell you that Dr. Sievers’ knowledge of anatomy is exemplary. He may practice in a small town, but he is a world class practitioner and stays up to date on the cutting edge of regenerative medicine. Portalis is blessed to have him. I can not give a strong enough recommendation for Dr. Sievers and his staff. Many years ago I suffered debilitating injuries. I have seen doctors in Colorado, Maryland, Saint Louis, Oklahoma City…and Doctor Sievers worked with me tirelessly and did not give up on me when others did. I would not be able to practice today without him. He saved my life. Thank You Dr. Sievers.” – J.B.
