Why Pain Lingers After a Sports Injury

Most people expect an injury to improve with rest. You sit out for a week or so, ice the area, and wait for the pain to settle down.

While this might work for minor injuries, it’s generally not enough to get you back in the game. And sometimes, even with a proper recovery program, you might still experience nagging pain that can impact your day-to-day life.

Fortunately, you don’t have to just live with that discomfort. Persistent pain often responds well to the right medical evaluation and targeted treatment. At Sievers Sports Medicine, we offer a wide range of state-of-the-art techniques to help resolve your pain and get you back to the activities that matter most.

What You Need to Know About Persistent Pain

For the most part, pain is a warning sign that something in your body needs attention. For this reason, we expect it to fade as an injury heals. And often, this is exactly what happens. But sometimes that process gets disrupted.

In some cases, people return to activity too quickly, overloading tissues before it’s capable of handling it. In others, they rest for too long and lose the strength and mobility needed for safe movement. Lingering pain may also occur when the original injury was never fully diagnosed and properly treated.

Pain can also change the way the body moves. When one area hurts, you might naturally shift weight or compensate with other muscles and joints. Over time, this can create additional strain and stiffness elsewhere in the body.

That is why persistent pain deserves proper evaluation from the Sievers Sports Medicine team.

Four Ways We Can Help You Feel Better

Dr. Sievers Hits the Trails and Passes on a Love for Nature

Dr. Sievers has been making the most of the great outdoors lately! He recently hit the trails at Palo Duro Canyon for an exciting mountain biking adventure, taking on the stunning red rock terrain of Texas’s “Grand Canyon of the Plains.”

But perhaps the most heartwarming adventure came when Dr. Sievers brought his granddaughter along for her very first hike! There’s nothing quite like introducing the next generation to the joys of nature, and Dr. Sievers is already instilling a love of the outdoors — and healthy, active habits — from an early age. A true testament to the belief that a healthy lifestyle is one of the greatest gifts we can pass on.
