Get Ready for Spring Sports with Regenerative Care

Athlete preparation is crucial for anyone participating in sports. Taking proactive steps before the start of the season can reduce your risk of injuries and help maximize your performance to its full potential.

At Sievers Sports Medicine, we offer several techniques to help get you ready for the demands of spring sports, from pre-participation exams to cutting-edge regenerative treatments like platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections and percutaneous needle tenotomy (PNT). Today, we want to explore these options in more detail. And if you have any questions, give us a call to speak to our friendly staff!

Three Ways We Will Get You Ready for the Spring Sports Season

Executive Evaluations for Everyone

A comprehensive pre-participation exam benefits athletes of all ages, not just kids. In addition to a physical exam, these evaluations may include diagnostic imaging or functional movement screens, and we’ll assess your musculoskeletal health, posture and biomechanics, and overall physical readiness.

How We Will Help

All this information then helps us highlight potential risk factors and areas for improvement. We’ll work with you to develop a program to address any issues, such as incorporating regenerative care or referring you to a physical or athletic therapist to develop the right sports conditioning program for your needs.

Regenerative Care for Sports Preparation

Regenerative medicine has revolutionized sports care, offering innovative ways to repair injuries and improve performance. We want to highlight two regenerative therapy treatments we provide at Sievers:

PRP Injections

PRP therapy involves drawing a small blood sample, processing it to concentrate the platelets, and injecting it into the injured area. Platelets contain growth factors that promote healing by stimulating tissue repair. Unlike medications that merely mask pain, PRP treats the underlying cause of discomfort by enhancing natural repair mechanisms.

PRP is especially effective for conditions like:

  • Sprains
  • Tendinitis (e.g., tennis elbow or Achilles tendinitis)
  • Strains
Percutaneous Needle Tenotomy

PNT is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat chronic tendon pain. During PNT, one of our technicians will use a needle to break down damaged tissue and stimulate healing in the affected tendon. By targeting damaged tissue directly, PNT offers long-lasting relief without surgery. Many patients report significant improvements in mobility and function after the procedure.

This technique is useful for any conditions involving tendon damage, such as the following:

  • Rotator cuff injuries
  • Chronic tendinitis
  • Plantar fasciitis

Proactive Wellness Strategies

One of the best things you can do to prepare for the spring sports season is to be proactive about your health and wellness. Our comprehensive evaluations can help you understand which areas of wellness you need to focus on, and we’ll work with you to create a personalized care plan that addresses the various factors associated with good health.

Green Muffins Recipe — Perfect for St. Patrick’s Day

  • 2 cups whole wheat pastry flour white whole wheat flour or spelt flour
  • 2 teaspoons aluminum-free baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon fine ground sea salt
  • 1 large egg
  • ¾ cup pure maple syrup
  • ¾ cup dairy or non-dairy milk such as almond milk
  • ¼ cup unrefined coconut oil melted
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1 5- or 6-ounce bag of fresh baby spinach leaves
  • 2 medium ripe bananas mashed
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and line a standard 12-cup muffin tin with unbleached parchment liners.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
  3. In a blender add egg, maple syrup, milk, oil, vanilla and spinach.  Process until pureed.
  4. Add spinach mixture to the flour mixture and stir until just combined.  Fold in the mashed banana.
  5. Scoop batter into prepared muffin tin, filling cups about ¾ full.  I like to do this with a large ice cream scooper.  Bake about 25 minutes, or until toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Store at room temperature up to 3 days.  These freeze nicely!
