Regenerative Medicine:
The Future of Healthcare Is Here
If you’ve ever suffered a major injury, then you know the typical approach to healing: pain management, dedicated rehab, and possibly surgery if the injury was severe enough. While these foundations still hold true, regenerative medicine suggests another potential path.
At Sievers Sports Medicine, we offer a full suite of regenerative treatments to help patients move better, recover faster, and return to the activities they love.
What Is Regenerative Medicine?
Regenerative medicine focuses on helping the body repair itself. Instead of masking pain or removing damaged tissue, these therapies stimulate natural healing at the source of the problem. Using biological materials from your own body or other advanced technologies, regenerative care activates growth factors and stimulates tissue remodeling so your body can rebuild damaged structures rather than compensate for them.
These techniques are particularly helpful for repairing injured tendons, ligaments, joints, and muscles, making them especially valuable in sports medicine, where overuse injuries and joint degeneration are common.

Why Is This Such a Big Deal?
Traditional care often focuses on symptom control. Regenerative care focuses on tissue repair, helping to provide lasting relief.
For example, surgery is historically considered the best choice for severe injuries that don’t respond to conservative treatment. Surgery removes or repairs damaged tissue, but it also requires significant downtime and rehabilitation and carries several risks.
In contrast, regenerative therapies encourage your body’s natural repair processes to address the injury by:
- Stimulating collagen production, which is the protein that gives tendons and ligaments strength
- Improving blood flow to poorly vascularized areas
- Supporting cartilage health inside joints
- Reducing chronic inflammation at the cellular level
This shift from “manage and maintain” to “repair and restore” is why regenerative medicine is shaping the future of musculoskeletal care.
Where is the Field Headed?
Regenerative medicine continues to advance rapidly. Ongoing research is exploring:
- More precise injections guided by ultrasound
- Improved preparation techniques
- Combination therapies that pair regenerative care with physical rehabilitation
- Early intervention strategies to slow arthritis progression
With all of these developments, the long-term goal is clear: intervene earlier, preserve native tissue, and reduce the need for joint replacement or invasive surgery.

Regenerative Services at Sievers Sports Medicine
We pride ourselves on staying abreast of the latest developments in healthcare, which is why we offer several advanced regenerative options that align with the latest scientific understanding of tissue healing.
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy
PRP involves processing your own blood to isolate the platelets within. Platelets contain growth factors, which are proteins that signal tissue repair. This platelet-rich plasma is then injected back at the injury site, where it can improve healing in tendon or ligament injuries. For patients with stubborn tendon pain or joint discomfort, PRP offers a targeted strategy that promotes healing from within. The combination of PRP and StemWave is gaining traction for its synergistic potential to support healing, optimize recovery, and enhance overall treatment outcomes.
Percutaneous Needle Tenotomy (PNT)
Chronic tendon injuries, such as Achilles or patellar tendinitis, often involve disorganized, weakened tissue. Percutaneous needle tenotomy uses a specialized needle to break up damaged tissue under ultrasound guidance. This triggers a controlled inflammatory response that reactivates the body’s healing processes.
StemWave Therapy
StemWave therapy uses acoustic wave technology to stimulate cellular repair by activating stem cells, specialized cells that can develop into different types of tissues. They play a key role in repairing and regenerating damaged areas. For patients who have tried rest, therapy, and medication without success, this option can provide renewed healing stimulus. The combination of PRP and StemWave is gaining traction for its synergistic potential to support healing, optimize recovery, and enhance overall treatment outcomes.
Hyaluronic Acid Injections
Hyaluronic acid is a natural component of joint fluid. However, when someone has osteoarthritis, the hyaluronic acid in their joints becomes thinner and less effective at cushioning cartilage. Injecting hyaluronic acid improves lubrication and shock absorption, helping to improve mobility, reduce joint stiffness, and delay the progression of degenerative joint changes. For active adults with knee arthritis, this treatment helps with smoother movement and less discomfort.
Umbilical Cord–Derived Stem Cells and Wharton’s Jelly
These biologics come from a young, robust source and are collected without the discomfort associated with traditional bone marrow harvesting, making them an appealing option for patients seeking advanced regenerative care.

The Future of Sports Medicine
Healthcare is shifting toward biologic repair and precision care, and the rise of regenerative medicine reflects that shift. Instead of trying to repress pain or other symptoms, we’re working to help your tissues heal naturally.
Sievers Sports Medicine is proud to offer patients access to therapies grounded in science and centered on recovery. If you’re curious to learn more about how regenerative medicine can help you move better, perform stronger, and protect your joints for the long run, contact our clinic today!
